The Last Confucian

Hi Guys!

We are happy to announce that finally we can finish our first documentary. Here I want to share our experience during the production of this movie.
At first, I have no idea that we are going to have a trilogy of China Benteng. For those who hasn’t familiar with China Benteng, let me explain to you. China Benteng is a Chinese community in Tangerang, near Jakarta, who embrace Chinese culture since their ancestral are from China. However, Community of China Benteng have their own way of life and characteristics, entirely different to those of other Chinese in greater Jakarta area and Indonesia.

At first, the title is not “The Last Confucian”, but “Echoes of Piety”, emphasizing subject strong fidelity. But, there are so many development afterwards. In fact, we found the story of the last confucian coincidentally when we were having research to make a simple documentary about China Benteng’s cultural heritage. However, we do have research and interview to support the story, including our interview with Mona Lohanda, book writer and prominent historian from National Archive.
We do have some other interview with Chairman of Matakin (Supreme Council for Khonghucu Religion In Indonesia), and cultural activist from China Benteng itself. Our research reinforces the story about Confucian as a victim of Suharto’s policy during new order regime, but you can experience much more when you watch the movie. 
